Bliss

In 1992, someone decided that the name Love Bomb was too inaccessible and so, we changed the name of the band to the more mainstream and more-accessible "Bliss."

At that time, the band's line-up was: Sean Kimball, Guitars and Vocals; Fran Sankey, Lead Guitar and Vocals; Bruce English, Keys and Vocals; Dave Esposto, Drums; and me, Bobby Foster, Bass and Lead Vocals.

In the Spring of 1993, Bliss entered a small local studio to self-produce a new set of recordings featuring my latest batch of new songs. The cd pictured to the right is the product of those sessions. In addition to nine previously unrecorded songs, there are updated versions of "Be A Light" and "Bridges." The intent was to shop the disc with record complanies and our representation thought those two songs were our strongest, so we updated them for this collection.

"Share Your Love," the opening track, and "What Love Is," are defining examples of my "crunch-pop" song-writing style and demonstrates where I was headed as a song-writer at the time.

"Soul Windows" and "Prayer" demonstrate my vocal range and more moody vocal stylings. Soul windows is probably my favorite track on the album, hence it being the title track.

"Real Love" is the gooey stuff that radio hits are made of. I love Sean's soaring background vocals on this track.

Unfortunately, by the time the CD was pressed and released, in November 1993, the band had pretty much dissolved. Dave had gone onto a gig with a blues band, backing the likes of Bo Diddly. Sean, Bruce, Fran, and I played a few coffee house gigs, unplugged, with my brother, Jay, on the drums. Those were fun, but the bus had Bliss run had pretty much run out of gas by then.

When I met Sean, he and I had originally discussed giving the project just 2 years to succeed. But, collectively, Love Bomb and Bliss had stayed together in one form or another for nearly 6 years. Looking back, I believe that too many personnel changes led to large gaps in our visibility and we could never regain the momentum we'd originally had with Love Bomb.

Fortunately, these recordings remain as a legacy of the music we made together.
